From Upcycled Frame to Beautiful Art!

My daughter started this project by painting her gold picture frame turquoise.  She didn't want the gold frame in her room,  because she didn't like the color. She LOVES everything turquoise right now,  so it was the obvious color of choice.  She loved the end result!

I loved it too!  I was just going to hang it on her wall like this.  I was happy with that idea. My daughter however,  thought it needed something... A few days later,  I came across some old canvases she had painted when she was little. We have lots of old paintings - she used to sit on the sidewalk and have art sales. Cars passing by would always stop and buy art from her. She was born an entrepreneur! Anyway, she decided we could upcycle quite a few of them.  She loves chandeliers,  so I painted one on a canvas. I was so proud of my antique wash.  I love this picture!   I was trying to decide where to put it,  when I discovered it was the perfect size for that turquoise frame! A match made in heaven...
A boring gold frame... Who knew what it would turn into.

Couldn't pass this one up!

When I saw this frame for $2 at a yard sale, it was LOVE at first sight! I didn't have to do a thing to it. It even has a natural crackle finish. Who could ask for more? Now I just have to decide which wall to put it on...

$5 Finds!

Honestly, I didn't need a coffee table, but come on... $5! Just needed some paint.

Okay, I can't turn down anything that has a price tag of $5 at a yard sale. I picked this one up and put it in the garage. I didn't have to do anything to it. It sure came in very handy when it came time to decorate my son's room.

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with this side table, but I knew it was coming home with me. The price was right... As usual, it was ugly and brown. I was sure I could fix that.

This was probably one of the BEST finds ever! Yes, $5. It was an ugly faux wood brown color, but I LOVED the curves. Black is beautiful...

Honestly, I can't even remember what color this small chest was before, but I can assure you - it was ugly. I do remember it being only $5 at a yard sale. I said, "SOLD".

Great Deals!

I should put this one in the FREE section, but oh well. This chandelier was in my house when I moved in, but it was the ugliest shiny GOLD I have ever seen. I spray painted it with a hammered metal spray, and I love it!

This beautiful chair was waiting for me at Homestead Handcrafts in San Antonio, Tx. Isn't it perfect!!!

This stool was only 50 cents! It was barn red, but it didn't take me long to paint it BLACK...

I found this old dresser at a yard sale for $20. It was a light, faux wood color, with gold edges. Wish I had a BEFORE picture. I painted it black (that can of paint is bottomless!), even KEPT the original knobs... I really think it's beautiful now :).

I picked up these ZEBRA pillows at ROSS for $4.99. The armoire got a make-over, with a fresh coat of BLACK paint...

My daughters found this chair at GOODWILL for $7. It was already black AND distressed. How perfect! (They had 2...We bought BOTH!)

My oldest daughter spotted this mirror on SALE at Homestead Handcrafts in San Antonio, Tx. It was only $3! Of course, it was gold... Originally, we painted it black - now it is this beautiful shade of TURQUOISE!

Blank Walls - HELP!

The wall above my fireplace is so empty. I need HELP. Thank God my husband is an artist! He came to the rescue with this amazing picture of a cow. I love it!!!

My FREE Finds!

This chest of drawers matches the vanity below. It was plain, with medium brown wood. I added some wooden embellishments from Hobby Lobby, and slapped a fresh coat of white paint on it. I really LOVE the way it turned out!

"Grandma's vanity" was given to me when she passed away. I added a decorative piece of wood to the drawer, and painted it white. Now it holds all of my oldest daughter's jewelry. PRECIOUS!

My mother and father-in-law were moving and gave us this chest. It was a light faux wood with gold around the edges. A clean coat of white paint, and my youngest daughter has a new place to store her Littlest Petshops! LOVE it!

This table and chair set was sitting in my aunt and uncle's garage. They kindly gave it to us, and I planned to sell it. I didn't need a "new" table and chairs... Or so I thought. I started to paint it black ( I paint EVERYTHING black), and quickly fell in LOVE! I recovered the seats in the toile and I have a new dining room set. For FREE!

My sister gave me this chair (and another one exactly like it) when she was finished with them.
They were "Grandma's". All I did was recover the seats in this black and white toile fabric that I found in my daughter's fabric stash, and I had 2 "NEW" chairs. VOILA!

This was my changing table when I was a baby!!! 33 years old, and it's been painted many, many times. With a fresh set of glass knobs, it now sits in my youngest daughter's room. So sweet!

This chair was also in the trash. With a fresh coat of white paint, and some wood glue - it was good as new!

More FREE stuff...

As I was looking around my house, I realized... most of our things were either FREE - or unbelievably CHEAP! I love to repaint and recycle our existing fixtures and decorations as well.
We have decorated our 3000 square ft. house on a seriously tight budget. I am a minimalist, so I'm afraid to take that giant leap, and put things on the walls. I still have a HUGE amount of blank canvas sitting here right in front of me, waiting to have life breathed into them... We'll see what happens. I wanted to share some of my FREE finds. Unfortunately I don't have anyBEFORE pictures, but I promise I will on all of my future REdo's. Here they are...

Found this table in the trash! It was in 5 pieces. We hoped they were all there, as we put it in the back of the car! It was plain wood, so I decoupaged it with leopard tissue paper - and it was good to go. My oldest daughter loves anything leopard, so it went straight into her room.

This picture block was so fun to make (with a little help from my daughter ). I know, I know, you are probably thinking... "Can she make anything on her own?" It's just more fun to work with someone else :). I just LOVE how it turned out!

Oh My Gosh I LOVE This Owl Pillow!

My daughters helped me put this together and even sewed it for me!
It turned out sooo cute!

My Latest Creations...

My Dad brought home a big bag of white tail deer antlers from the deer lease.  They shed them annually, so you can find them just lying on the ground!  I painted some of them, and stained others.  This is how they turned out!
I wanted to make something out of this old piece of wood I found under my deck,  and my daughters are really into zebra print right now.... So I salvaged that piece of wood, and turned it into this out of the ordinary picture frame.

I LOVE cork boards,  and had a ton of frames in the craft cabinet.  I love collecting frames! Anyway, with some encouragement, ( and a little nagging from the girls), I cranked out quite a few of these babies last night. It was fun!

The Beginning of True Love Home Decor...

My daughters are 10 and 14. They are so creative and fun! They have their own ETSY stores and BLOGS, and they really wanted me to join in. We have a 2 year old little boy, so there is constant noise buzzing around me. That, along with my short attention span, and no short term memory - should make this adventure interesting. I'm a NEWBY, wish me luck!
